Robert Barbaro was born in Melbourne and began singing at an early age. In high school he enjoyed singing and playing his favourite songs on the piano by Ben Folds, The Beatles and Elton John. Robert went on to graduate from bachelor degrees in Law and Arts at Monash University. It was at during this time when he developed a love for classical singing and began his training in opera and performance. Since then, he has performed in numerous operatic roles throughout Australia, a highlight was his moving portrayal of idol Mario Lanza in the national tour of Mario Lanza – The Loveliest Night of the Year. In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious Opera Society Vocal Scholarship through the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust.
Robert is currently a casual chorus member for Opera Australia, having performed in productions of Madama Butterfly, Aida and Götterdämmerung, as well as a performer with the internationally acclaimed The Ten Tenors. He recently returned from a North America tour with The Ten Tenors and is looking forward to future engagements with the group, which includes an upcoming European Tour.
