Vanessa studied her Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in Drama at the University of Southern Queensland Toowoomba before heading to the bright lights of Sydney. Joining Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for the first time in 1994, Vanessa has worked and volunteered on and off for over 20 years.
For Mardi Gras, Vanessa has been a member of the Festival Committee and Women’s Committee, a Stage Manager for Fair Day and Parade, has been a Parade Volunteer and Production Co-ordinator for a Mardi Gras Float.
Her most recent contribution to Mardi Gras is to be Stage and Production Manager for Women Say Something. She was there at the very first show and is proud to have done all except one.
Vanessa has also been involved in theatrical productions at Downstairs Belvoir, New Theatre, Paddington Town Hall, Shakespeare by the Sea and the Old Fitz.
She loves the challenge of calling a show, is obsessed with lighting (particularly “lasers”) and is never short of gaffer tape.
Vanessa resides in Sydney, grows her own herbs and plays cricket!
